CDStart Method:

Note: This is for most ATAPI CDROM drives. If your CD-ROM doesn't load by the CDStart method, you will need to obtain the drivers from your manufacturer and make the necessary changes in your Config.dos and Autoexec.dos files.

Download CDStart.exe here. This is a self-extracting archive and by default will place the file in the C:\Windows\Command folder. If Windows is installed in a directory other than C:\Windows, type the path to your Command folder.

Download AutoConf.exe here. This is a self-extracting archive and by default will place the files in the C:\PureDOS folder. NOTE: If your 'Windows' folder is *not* C:\WINDOWS, you will have to edit the config.dos file to change two lines to show the correct path.

Example:

DEVICE=C:\YOURFOLDER\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\YOURFOLDER\EMM386.EXE NOEMS

Instructions for use:

Once you have run the PureDOS shortcut from the Start Menu and are at the DOS prompt, type in CDStart and press Enter. Your machine will reboot and the CD drivers will load. To return to Windows, type: WinMe  and press Enter.
